Go make Disciples
"Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ."- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“When a person makes a confession of faith and is never taken through a formal discipleship process, there is little hope of seeing genuine spiritual transformation.” —Dr. Howard Hendricks
All that one does that leads another person into a deeper relationship with Christ is discipleship. The word disciple in the Greek simply means learner. In the Great Commission that Jesus left for His followers to implement, He said, "teach them to observe all that I have commanded them" (Matthew 28:19-20). At Bethel Baptist, we have created a unique and strategic discipleship process we call the 5 phases. Each phase takes about three months to complete in a group or one-on-one setting. Each phase includes Bible reading, weekly gatherings, and hands-on learning. Once all five phases are complete you will have read through the entire Bible, and we believe best prepared and confident to begin discipling others.
5 phases
Discipleship is the mandate that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples to make more disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). This is Jesus' central command in the Great Commission. At Bethel Baptist, discipleship is a journey and process where the one(s) being discipled know they are being discipled and are committed to the one(s) discipling them. Since discipleship is a process, there is not a specific timeframe for completing the five phases, rather the goal is to walk through all phases as the Spirit leads.
Phase 1: Gospel Challenge
Phase 2: Prayer
Phase 3: Body of Christ
Phase 4: Disciple of Christ
Phase 5: Reaching the Lost
